I would have to say, on average, we (Americans) are just as bad as any other place in the world. I mean, come on. Every country has ridiculous people, every country has good people, every country has stupid people, etc. It bothers me, however, that as Americans, starting with the government, we feel we need to police the world. We butt in when it is none of our business, and we pressure others to do things we want, no matter how much we've thought of the consequences. We tout and spread democracy elsewhere when we don't even have a real democracy, and we're very arrogant, because we have the luxury of being arrogant due to our armed forces and our standard of living.

Of course, the problem is, I'm not sure what can be done about it.

I, personally, will live my life not being like that. I, personally, will try to be a good person, will teach my children to be good people, will try to show others that you can be a good person and think and help society without being a bigot or an idiot or xenophobic or anything bad in this world.

I will write to my senator when I feel decisions being made are not in the best view of the country, which is my right as an American. I can go down the block if I feel that a certain store is screwing me over. I can buy DSL if I hate my Cable company. I can get up on the street corner and speak my mind about Atheism, or I can turn on NBC on Saturdays and see a popular show making fun of the President.

Sure, there are many many things that are wrong with this country, and there are a few other places that might be slightly better, but I'm not going anywhere, because I believe I can make this country better by being here.

Anyway, sorry to mini-rant, just my 2 cents.

The Atheist's Wager "It is better to live your life as if there are no
Gods, and try to make the world a better place for your
being in it. If there is no God, you have lost nothing
and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind.
If there is a benevolent God, He will judge you on your
merits and not just on whether or not you believed in Him."
