Game #11 - Earthbound

Earthbound is a very unique game. At the time most RPGs were focused around a fantasy medieval setting and there's nothing wrong with that. Earthbound took a different route and based the setting around a more modern time and our heroes are kids who along with PSI use bats and yo-yos and bottle rockets to fight the army of the evil alien Giygas. The combat system is also a little different than your normal RPGs. Your health starts to number down after being hit by an attack instead of an instant subtraction therefore giving you time to heal if hit by a normally mortal blow. Also battles with weak enemies will automatically be skipped. Earthbound's biggest strengths are the great, lively and colourful graphics and the amazing writing. The graphics are some of the best on the  Super Nintendo and to this day, is very clean and visually appealing. The writing is very well done, there is never a dull moment in Earthbound, a ton of careful was put in to make pretty much everything in the game that has a dialouge box to be interesting in some way or another. From the witty NPCs to the crazy things enemies will do in a battle to the satisfying SMAAAASSSSH! attack, it adds a certain charm that very few games can match.
