- More complex AI: Enemies (and allies) that react better to changing circumstances in-game.
- Enemies and environments reacting properly to being damaged: Remember Perfect Dark letting you shoot guns out of people's hands? Hell, shoot them in the arm or leg and they actually react the way you'd expect. Why is environmental damage more or less restricted to the (probably now-dead) Red Faction franchise?
- First person view with peripherals: We've got surround sound, now we need these VR headsets out so all characters in FPS won't have the exact same vision restrictions as wearing goggles.
- Characters being absolutely capable of doing things they should be capable of doing: Case in point, any game that involves climbing will include at least one situation where there's a surface that looks imminently climbable, but is actually a smooth, featureless wall. I've run into a few situations recently where it looks like a character really should be able to jump down onto a platform, but an invisible wall or just plain-ol' insta-death said no.
- Speaking of invisible walls...: Is there a one-size-fits-all solution to removing these things? (Meaning, replace them with something less gamey and immersion breaking.) I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
