The Mega Man thing is more funny than anything.

I do however find it irksome that Sony's character collage includes a lot of characters whose games have not been exclusive to the company. I think they could have focused on characters from Sony-exclusive games and created something more focused and meaningful.

Why alianate all 3rd parties who had successful games on Playstation?

BTW some of the Mega Man X games have been console exclusive to Playstation. To say that Sony should only use Characters that have never been released on a different System would be like saying Sonic shouldn't be in Smash. Hell, even Crash Bandicoot, one of the most iconic Sony characters, had been on plenty non PS platforms.

Not really. Smash doesn't explicitly state that it's about Nintendo's history, even though that's a big part of it. This ad, however, does specifically talk about "celebrating 20 years of PlayStation".

And, honestly, although their roster of exclusives isn't as large as that of a company like Nintendo, they've had enough iconic exclusive games over the years that they could have just stuck with Sony-exclusive characters and it would still have looked good. The actual poster they've gone with is ambitious but kind of cluttered. Leave someone like Mega Man for when Capcom want to do a poster celebrating their heritage.
