There are different explanations:
· It's not Resident Evil 4.
· It's not like old-school Resident evil games, despite having a similar feeling with the inventory management issues, tight corridors after Chapter 2, classic monsters coming back and some cheesy-dialogue between the cast.
· It doesn't resemble what Resident Evil 5 was going to be. This is actually true, as, given the controversy created by Chris killing African people, they switched the game a bit with a partner AI added and a more action-oriented theme. As I'll never know what game would have turned out, I'm happy with the result we've got now.
And I agree, it's a great game. It does nothing exemplary, but the high amount of replayability, the well-done co-op, fun and tense gameplay and customizing options + extras (like Mercenaries Mode) made this game really shine in my eyes.
