Back when he got infamous for his false predictions, there was actually a research that showed he got his predictions right more often than the other people researched. So yeah, it's not that he's bad, it's just he has so much visibility and people tend to remember his bad predictions.

The only ones he gets right are the ones we already knew where going to happen, it's not as if he is actually getting half right. He is stating the obvious on at least 50% of the right predictions. So in reality he's just as wrong as everyone thought.

As long as he mostly gets his sharemarket predictions right he's set for life. How well, or badly he reads consumer trends is largely irrelevant. But because he's one of the few investment analysts specialising in video game companies he'll get air time with gaming press.
