But does it really matter? The majority play simple freemium games. If your going to buy amazing looking games that's what a PSVita or 3DS is for, if anything this means Sony or Nintendo will be able to have a graphically better handheld. |
Oh it does matter. Bioshock was just ported to the iPhone and BF4 may come along as well. With a Dualshock 4 you can play GTA and dozens of other great AAA quality games.
By no means am I saying that Phones will eliminate or EVER catch up to the performance of a modern console; but they are close to almost completily pushing gaming handhelds out of the market, and they are making consoles less of a neccessity. If you are the type of guy that just plays AAA games once a week or so, you may not need a console to get your fix within a few years from now.
Now admitedly phones are about to hit the same technology walls that Desktops hit 2 years ago, but still I think very soon we can expect flagship phones to always be perpetually in-between last and current gen consoles. Once that happens I guaruntee COD and some of the other major franchises will begin releasing their games on mobile if enough of a market develops for them to.
Prediction for console Lifetime sales:
Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million
[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]
3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m
I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
