I like to race alone... never liked playing online and I can't play my racing games locally because besides my friends not liking racing I play so much of it that would be no content... but yeah it is a very important part of the game... so I accept that it was a huge mistake from the devs part, and for some it could be considered a broken game at launch (altough corrected in 2 weeks) and deserve to be called out for and demand they do better next time and use open beta.
Hope the game is good enough so nintendo can have even more variety in the portfolio.
