I seriously doubt the PS5 is going to be released so late. The jump this gen was tiny in comparison to last, and both PS4 and XB1 were already behind mid range computer rigs at launch, compared to the PS3 which was a beast on release.

It's not about the jump ... In fact I believe the increase of power on the new consoles alone warrants a new generation. Physically based shading for AAA games on the new consoles is a big step from last gen consoles.

There won't be drastic increases in terms of performance/price and this aspect is particularly the most important one since consoles are meant to be cost effective products in general.

Also you can't say the Wii U is plateauing when it's still increasing YoY, especially with its biggest year (release-wise) about to start. Even then, as long as the plateau is profitable, it's better then wasting all that R&D on a console that will be rendered garbage a year or two later.

Yes I can claim that the WII U is experiencing a plateau ... This year the WII U sold less in Japan compared to last year and the same goes with the rest of the world too. What's more is that November NPD tells us that that the WII U remained flat compared to last November despite Smash releasing ...

The Wii U has quite a bit left in the tank: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Xenoblade, Crossovers/Second-party support, price drops, and new IPs/Spin-offs mean the Wii U will continue to be profitable for a long time. Nintendo is still learning about new modern development too.

The WII U already has the active majority of Mario fans as far as consoles are concerned and Metroid for the WII U hasn't been announced yet. There's only two worthwhile bullets I can count left. Splatoon and Zelda been the obvious ones.

Also, if you announce a new console, the profits still to be made from the Wii U will shrivel up and die. Which would be a shame, especially with the amiibo being a success and the Wii U being up YoY again in 2015.

Amiibo seems like some fad to me and with a new console, Nintendo can potentially reap more profits than they are doing now ...
