Eternal Darkness afaik is a physical item/game that has released. So they own that trademark and have the rights to renew it as long as they want.

USPTO dont want trademarks to be kept if they are not made into something, be it a service/product.

As far as I know Nintendo can lose the trademark, they still have to show that they want to use it to renew it. Most likely this means they get an intern to whip up some quick concept art and say that they are thinking about doing something with it.
