It really matter, someone that doesn''t know how to properly express himself and write in a good fashion is less likely to suceed. If someone can't use even proper grammar, understand basic math and physics, general notions of geopolitic and some civilization history I would doubt his skill or learning capacity in anything. You won't make a manager of someone that communicates with slangs and don't know the difference bettween those 8 forms and which to use.
