Pretty much. It doesn't help that our entire social structure is based on generalizations and social divisions, which encourages disliking things/people (I've mentioned that twice in 10 minutes now 
).
If you like [x], and [y] is competing with it, then obviously [y] and everything related to it is the spawn of Satan and should be berried in a deep hole.
Would be interest to read a study that compares actual dislike to associated dislike. *goes and looks to see if it exists*
