DDoS attacks are virtually impossible to defend against, and that's what makes them such a common tactic.
The only way to stop a DDoS is to block the IP address where the attack is coming from. But even this isn't perfect, since many DDoS attacks are like a "siege" with traffic coming from dozens, if not hundreds of IPs.
