Sony should probably start thinking about investing in the quantum computing machines, though.  Impossible to hack (at least, as far as I'm aware).

You don't have to use quantum computing (and then it probably won't be of any real use) but there are some security design concepts and best practices that prevent a hack like this, if done right.

Sadly, IT departments are almost always too small and really good people are mostly too expensive for companies. The results are known.

True, but Sony isn't a networking company, they've only ever had to care about it since the PSN.  So, it's not really up their alley.  An easy fix would be quantum networks, which, as I said, are in theory, unhackable.

Frankly, the issue here is the inability of police/international authorities to deal with international hackers, and the problem is only going to get worse.
