Whether modern phones are more  powerful is kind of irrelevant because developers simply aren't going to utilise  that power. 

For me it's more, those games just don't control right on any phones. The Xperia Play showed promise, but crashed in the market place. Without physical controls, 99% of game genres are severely held back. All I play on my phone is stuff that suits touch screen gameplay, which generally comes down to puzzle games.
