Train them to not to shot to kill. Tasers are good, weapons that shoot none deadly rounds is also good. Train them to understand the situation more so they know the right course of action. Nobody said it would be easy but then again its not an easy job nor should it be. Using deadly force for every situation is not the best course of action. If your ideal is that cops should not have to think but just react, I hope you never have a kid in a situation where lethal force is the only option. Police are just as much part of a community as the people who live there. Shoot first and ask questions later should not be the only option for law enforement. Hell, there was a case in Cleveland where a 12 year old kid was killed because he was waving around a platic gun without the red tip. |
Also, if it's not supposed to be an easy job, pay them more. Then there's more job satisfaction, frankly better applicants, and less cause to act like an asshole if you're happier with your lot in life. I am not anti-police at the end of the day, but a lot about their environment needs to be changed, and they'll become better people for it.
