I remember having a lady tell her kid she couldn't rent Harry Potter because it promotes witchcraft and the devil, then she let her rent a horror film.
I've warned many parents about the games their kids wanted, because parents seldomn look at anything but the cost. Some make them get something else but you can tell that many of them don't actually care, they just don't want to appear to be bad parents after being warned. Some of them take that "it's none of your business" attitude. I remember telling one mom about what was in GTA but she just shrugged and said, "he's mature for his age." Her kid looked to be about 10. I eventually stopped saying anything, for the most part.
The overwhelming majority of parents don't care about violence, they just don't want their kids to see any sex or nudity. They'll bring up a film and ask if it's OK for their kid and I'll be like, "well, the main character kills like twenty people and decapitates this one guy," but they'd be like, "that's fine, I just don't want him to see any sex." That wasn't unusual at all.
