#34: Mega Man X4 (Capcom, 1997) - PS1 (also available on Saturn and PC)

This is my favorite game on the series. The ability to play as Zero is AMAZING, in my opinion - even if he goes through the exact same levels as X, they play so differently that I didn't mind playing the game twice. This is where the series started to focus more on Zero, since we got important backstory on the character, and that would eventually lead to his own series. Both characters' plots actually have a plot twist at the end that really surprised me at the time. And of course the way that story was told became legendary: hilariously voiced cutscenes. WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOAAARGH?! Sadly, the soundtrack is one of the weakest on the series in my opinion. But gameplay-wise, I just can't get enough.

Who could have guessed that Double was a "double" agent? I agree with you, this game is fantastic, I've played through it many many times (90% of the time as Zero because he's fucking awesome!) Mega Man had the worst voice ever though.

I too prefer playing as Zero. His gameplay is much more fast-paced, and by the end of the game, he becomes a GOD. Also, by the end of the game, I just skipped the cutscenes, so I didn't see Double's revealin his true colors. So imagine my surprise when I enter on that room and there's Double with a Warning sign =P. Same goes for Iris.
