First of all, Im a PC hardcore gamer. I have almost 180 games on Steam. But I understand the need of Console gaming. If you are a gamer that doesnt take parties, you would understand that there are great experiences on Consoles, like Uncharted, TLOU, Heavy Rain, and many others. You dont need a keyboard, to boot windows, to start Steam, to start big picture. you just press the gamepad button, choose the game and start playing in the couch or bed. Sometimes you need to rest and its better to be lazy. I have the exclusives and a couple of games to play lazy, the rest of them are played on monster PC.
But there are other needs. Most parents dont want to spend time finding someone that makes the PC for them, or understanding how it works or how to download drivers, they just go to the supermarket or shop and buy the console instead of a refrigerator or microwave, to take it home and play, it just need power, network and hdmi cable, thats all.
They dont want little kids to have access to internet and get contacted from people they dont know in social networks, they dont want their kids to accidentally watch porn. They just bought a machine for them to play.
It was enough with the NES, so its more than enough with 1080p now and high quality textures.
Also they can play too. They dont care about better AA, or better ambient occlusion, or better soft shadows, or better undersampling of supersampling, high degree of tessellation. They go to work , get home and play with a beer and some snacs. They even dont care to learn why the PC is better or how to have better graphics, They just know that this gen is better than the old one.
That are some reasons why they buy consoles, and I think thats the better choise for them.
Others like me buy the best parts they can to make a great PC, configure every game with the best configuration they can, test FPS, watch for lost frames or stuttering, and then play the game admiring how good it looks and what a great ultra quality it has. And I have a great time doing that and then enjoing the game as i like it. That better quality doesnt make it a better game, but it looks nicer and more real to me. Im 41, and when I was 20 I remember playing Doom2 and wonder when I could see a game like that where characters look real, They are a lot closer now. I love mu hardcore PC, but I understand that my needs are not the same as the normal joe that doesnt know a thing besides facebook or mail and want to play at home. He is better with a console. Im better with the PC but have the console for my lazy times.
