Their gain is advertising and exposure. Atteacting new customers to their store that wouldn't have looked there in the first place. Future sales of games, accessories, psn cards to those customers.
Certainly no business looks at sales like this as an isolated event.
(basically the same reason XOne is being sold at a cut-rate price right now -- it's not only about shifting consolesfor Microsoft, but about building an install/customer base for the next 5-7 years..)
