it very well may not be that low, i never timed it. i doubt they are faulty as I got the second controller at a different time (obviously) but these things don't last as long as a PS3 remote or 360/ONE. They really need to impove this as it's my only real gripe with the console. Oh yeah and the fact that I can't find any friends out of the 15.1 million units out there :(
