How can that even be faked? If it's slimmer than before, it's obviously a slim version. How they achieve that is completely irrelevant.

1 What does MS gain from constructing and selling a console that's purposely bigger than all the competitors?
2 What does a consumer gain from buying a console that's a few inches smaller here and there?

3 A slim version isn't going to magically persuade someone to buy that console. It's either a price cut, better library at that point or added value that comes with the slim.

It's just a design choice.

I'll give you an example from bodybuilding products.
Recently BSN came under fire for their preigniter products due to the excessive amount of magnesium, and sodium which are cheap chemicals used to make the contents appear larger than actual.
The actual pump ingredients are minimal when you compare labels. 10-20x the amount of useless chemicals, and 10% of the ones that actually are involved in nitric oxide pumping.
They changed to a new formula (which still isn't that good) and wrapped it in all new packaging and advertised new improved formula which curiously enough, spiked sales.

1 They don't gain anything, but they don't lose anything either. I can tell you didn't read the OP because I already addressed this.
2 Well, we can just look at the sales when slim version were released of consoles.
