Because the World Cup is the biggest spoting event in the world? Bigger than the olympics even.

Anyway, if you're hoping this will force FIFA to take away the hosting rights from Russia or even Qatar, you're in for a surprise.

I meant be associated with FIFA, not the World Cup.  But IT IS all they have.  If the world cup ends, so does FIFA. 

I'm not hoping that they pull Qatar and Russia.  Far from it, I'm hoping they keep the rights but no teams turn up.  Now that would be funny...  Extremely unlikely yes, but funny as hell.

I'm sure Sony might be happy to be once again associated with a World Cup where FIFA isnt involved.

If there's no FIFA, theres no World cup, simple as that
