If the 360 sells around about 50 million consoles in its lifetime it would be an overwhelming success. If 360 sells around about 50 million consoles it would be a success, despite the PS3 selling over 80 million consoles.
360's success should not be measured solely against the PS3.
BTW I set 50 million consoles as the best number for the 360 to reach that would mean doubling the original XBox console figures and the 360 will be on the market I assume for two extra years and selling at a better rate than its predecessor. Attractive 360 console + game(s) Bundles will with out a shadow of a doubt attract more people to the 360.
