Blue Ocean Strategy:
1: how to create uncontested market space by reconstructing market boundaries,
(Gaming is the platform, but creating an ecosystem based around games is not something that's been capitalized on yet. Seems to me that Sony wants to get you started with the PS4 and offers additional hardware that will/eventually/ allow you to have the home console experience, anywhere [Cell Phones for mobile, PSTV for an Extender, Vita for the hardcore mobile, and PSNow for the super casual])
2: focusing on the big picture,
(Entertainment. Interactive and non interactive entertainment. Sony wants to be the verb you spend your time doing - Games first, with Music, TV and Movies completing the full package)
3: reaching beyond existing demand and
(I interpret this as creating/innovating/pioneering products that people don't know they want yet. This means setting up and optimizing the infrastructure to support cloud streaming of multimedia. This is an investment, a risk and a gamble that transcends us as gamers and reaches to every household worldwide that has access to internet.)
4: getting the strategic sequence right.
(Not much to say. Their strategy so far seems flawlessly executed. )
I would say that there are some similarities between Sonys strategy and the Blue Ocean Strategy.
