Sony have yet to directly counter any of MS's various entry price cuts and promotions over the last year, so it's not really a war yet. It's more MS trying to compete against the price Sony started with.
Sony will cut the PS4's price eventually, but it's hard to say when. I get the impression they're waiting for the perfect moment (a $50 price cut could have a massive effect), but they mustn't wait too long. The US in particular is still a very competitive region; they can't afford to give MS too much breathing room.
