Personally, and I hate to say it, I think it is apart of us southern peoples history, but I can see how it could offend.... It represents a past generation, a whole generation that fought and died, something we should remember, not forget. The reason it is so offensive is because, after the war, the flag was bastardized by the union. The victor writes history after all. |
Yeah the confederate flag can mean a lot of things for different people, making it a problematic issue... if you are black you might see it as a pro slavery flag... but fact is most people who fought and died under that flag were not slave owners or even pro slavery... for them it the flag represented freedom and liberty from a goverment that wasn´t interested in their needs... when most states joined the union they had no idea that they couldn´t ever get out of it anymore...
