I am looking into starting game development in a very near future and will start with the http://www.onegameamonth.com/ which incentives a very important part of game development, which is finishing a game you started. I have a Actionscript game made in Flash that I made in university which I never got to fix the bugs and polish so that will be my first game there.

There are a lot of tools for people who don't know how to code which can give results very fast. Then after you get that initial boost of motivation you can then get deep in the code aspect and technical aspects like 3D programming. What is the hardest thing is starting a game and finishing it. So if you want to really make games then finish all of the ones you start, never lose interest in one and ditch it. Don't make 30 unfinished, unpolished ones, make 5 finished and polished ones.
