This is about as believable as devs claiming that 30fps is cinematic.

Why is everybody turning into politicians? It's almost as if the truth is avoided at all cost now, even if the truth isn't actually that bad, or "better" than the lie.

In this case, I reckon the real reason is just that the executive didn't know the answer. People tend to not like saying "I don't know", and this was the first thing that came to his head.

I'd like to know where this firmware is being developed. As my experience as a developer in an international organisation, I find that regions of the world have very different attitudes to this sort of thing. In some parts of the world, they tend to like having a roadmap planned way, way into the future and any deviations from the roadmap is met with huge resistance (Asia). Others are happy to move things around at leisure (USA / Europe).

Many Western teams and organisations have moved over to agile methodology, while Asian teams and organisations are really trying their hardest to stick with waterfall.

If I was to find out that Xbox's firmware is developed or managed in the West, and Playstation's was done in the East, I would not be surprised, just based on what we see with how they tend to prioritise things and put stuff out.
