Multiplayer heavy games of any sort should have Betas. Even if it's only a couple of maps/circuits, you have to do some decent testing of the online functionality with a global reach. Personally I think every PSN+ and XBL Gold member (tee hee Goldmember) should be in a lottery for closed Betas. Even if there's no open Beta having a substantial number of players around the world participate in a closed Beta will help.
