#48. Slugfest (Arcade)

A pinball game based on baseball. Basically one player would pitch, the other would hit the swing button and try to hit the ball into a sensor that wasn't lit "OUT".

Two of the best things about the game are home runs and pinch hits. You have a limited number of pinch hits, and every time you call one up, a ramp lifts in the middle of the playing area, and hitting a ball off of it at the right speed and angle would land the ball in the "bleachers" for a home run. And any time you got the bases loaded, the display would show a heckler and he would start heckling you. The ramp would raise and you could hit a grand slam, which would also nail the heckler with the ball.

But the best part is the game gave out baseball cards for doing well. It's an amazingly simple game that still stands up today. Also, the only really good multiplayer pinball game that I know of, where you are actually in direct active competition and not just watching scores. It's a long drive to the two cities I know of with arcades that still have it but I try to stop by whenever I am near.
