Step On It!Mac, 1996

By far the most obscure game on my list, Step On It! released solely for the Mac in 1996 is an action/puzzle game based on the older, more well known game Solomon's Key released in the Arcades and for the Nintendo Entertainment System shortly after. The gameplay is exactly the same, and much of the levels are either inspired by contemporaries in Solomon's Key, or blatant copies altogether. The levels all contain one screen, on which the player must avoid enemies and obstacles to obtain the key, which opens the door to exit the level and continue to the next. To do this, the player must create or remove blocks and use them as platforms. This way, you can create bridges, stairs or direct the enemies away from places you don't want them to be.

Don't let the 'Toy Story'-style visuals (probably not coincidental since that movie was still quite new at the time) fool you. This game is ridiculously hard, much like the game it was based on. It's definitely one of the hardest game I ever played, I never beat it, and I never will. Zelda II? Hah! Easy as pie compared to this. I'm not even sure how many levels there are, as there's next to no information to be found on the internet about this game. It's on the list because it's extremely memorable to me and for all it's challenge, still a lot of fun. It feels like it was the day before yesterday when me and my family were taking turns trying to get as far as possible in this game. So memorable, that I can drum up many of the sound effects any time. I even remember where a lot of the secret coins are, in fact, I'm just going to go upstairs and boot up that old '95 Performa Mac right now!
