It is also funny that they could not wait untill they ACTUALLY shipped 10 mil for the announcement. Seems kinda eager....

It's either that they know they lost Oct, so want some kinda good PR out there when they say nothing, or next to nothing, tomorrow for NPD.  This is most likely.  Or, it could be that they aren't 100% sure that they will reach 10M for this year, but still want that number in people's minds.  It also gives the impression that they are not that far from Sony, since the last number they gave was 13.5M.  Of course, Sony has probably shipped close to 15M-16M, by now.
