If they have to move some of the AI onto the GPU, then a patch isn't going to come anytime soon. GPU shaders can be a bitch, because a lot of times you have to change how the algorithm is working, in order to utilize the parallelism of the GPU.
They could patch some other issues, and work on memory issues to limit cache misses, and have more efficient streaming. These could be quicker patches, that could buy some time to get some stuff onto the GPU. But, they probably are just gonna put some band-aids on it and not really bother on totally fixing it, and instead, they will work on the DLC, and reap in some more money.
In the meantime, they will have another team, reworking the engine for the next version so that these problems wont appear, and that it will be more optimized.
They wont have this system maxed out for years.
