Probably because LoTR is a big thing here, and people would rather see the title in Spanish. English isn't known by a huge percentage of Spanish people.

The real question is why they didn't hire the usual guys who do this job. We got a literal translation instead of something along the lines of "La tierra medía como la sombra de Mordor (más o menos)".
