I would have thought PS4 is sending the signal down the HDMI cable and it's just the TV freaking out and not doing what it's supposed to in order to display the image/sound. I don't recall ever having this problem, but I don't specifically recall any instances of turning the TV on after turning on the PS4. |
im assuming its an old/cheapo tv, they have a tendancy to ignore or mess up handshakes if the handshake isnt sent AFTER the are turned on, if theyre sat waiting for a signal its usually fine, but if theyre turned on with a signal already being repeatedly sent then it messes up, some REALLY old tvs that dont handle handshakes at all can completely cease to work with newer hdmi devices too.
A damaged or overly long hdmi cable can cause issues too in that the signal being sent from the console fails and the console goes into lockdown and stops sending a signal all together (only occurs with HDCP turned on though) in those instances, its a countermeasure intended to prevent older hdmi stripper devices from working.
OP, Try turning off HDCP and see how that goes.
