I wrote this back in July, but it applies (Keep in mind I was pretty drunk when I typed this): So my friends Randy's birthday party was tonight. We had the party(it was a surprise) over at my neighbor Lucy's Apt(mine's across the street from her's, which is awesome cuz we've been friends for years, anyway back to the story) and we had about 12 people over there for a good bit. Dave (Lucy's BF and my fellow Nintendo fanboy, who incidentally is in a pretty good indy rock band ) pulls out his GC and challenges me to Mario Kart, which I totally kick his ass at. Anyway, after a round or two, everyone notices the game, and like 9 of the 12 people there turned out to be avid Karters, so we make a double elimination tournament table, and go to it. An hour and a half later, I am reigned champion. Wait...I almost forget, it's time for a- Subplot! During a smoke break from the tournament, I come up with what I think might be the best idea since the bagel. What if Mario Kart Wii has an 8-player mode where, like in Double Dash, two people co-op to control one kart, except in this case there are four kart, and control are split into nunchuk(using items, punching) and the Wii-mote(driving). If it still isnt clear what I'm trying to describe, imagine one person(Driver) holding the wii-mote(long remote control shaped part) and the teammate/puncher/item user using the nunchaku part. Sounds pretty cool, huh? Anyway, back to the- Mainplot! ...After the GC is shut off, we have the water balloon fight out back, play my "Lightning Reaction" game (Four people each hold a one-button controller attached to a main unit. A light flashes on the unit, then changes color. When the color changes, the last person to press their button gets an electrical shock...so much fun) , go swimming over at the pool, play a bunch of marco-polo, and further our mental degradation...All-in-all one of the most fun nights I've had in a long time, one integrel part of which being the Gamecube, and the chance that 75% of the people there turned out to be huge Mario Kart fans. No matter what your console is, be it MS, Sony, or Nintendo, I find it very cool to know that these kinds of experiences are only going to increase as video games are brought more and more into the main stream. PS: This is what the alphebet would look like if Q and R were eliminated. PPS: Mental Degradation...I'm gonna have to add that to my normal vocaubulary.
