The people on the Internets bitching about this, rarely think rationally. If the PS4 version is not 1080p it must be a shitty developer. If the Xbox One version has the same resolution it must be moneyhats sent by Microsoft. They don't really understand that you're talking about a small difference in power, and that you can have two games of the same resolution yet still have one of them look and perform better than the other. They see 1080p vs 1080p and assume "omgomg parity!!".
Your example was perfect. Ryse is 900p yet looks better than pretty much anything else on consoles. Or, at worst, looks comparable to even the best looking 1080p games.
