Selling for more on Amazon means there is a demand that is not satisfied, if those people didn't want BC they just would buy the the 40Gb at a cheaper price... So if there was a SKU with some BC ( say the 80GB) it would increase the sales some... Especially when you notice every other week a new PS2 game release still creeping in the top 10 sales... |
There is some level of demand that isn't satisfied, but that isn't entirely for the BC aspect of the PS3. Simply announcing continued production would kill some of the demand for the 20/60gb because they are now collectors items. Without any concrete numbers on how many are being sold and why they are being bought it is not possible to gauge if the increase would be significant or worth the cost of restarting the closed assembly lines. The 80gb is an option, and announced in Japan. Whether or not that model will have BC throguh partial software I am unsrue of, but I think it is a safe bet to say it will. I have some nagging memory of SSJ12 posting something showing it was just a 40gb with a bigger HDD, but I could be insane. If they don't I imagine there must be some reason as currently only America has the 80gb as an option.
Originally it had the processor and graphics card. The 80gb took out one of them, but kept the other. Thats all I remember off hand, but wikipedia should have more specific info if you want it.
