When Reggie's blatantly right, all you can do is make digs at the WiiU's sales.

Well the sales imply the Wii U should be more like the other machines. What they're doing doesn't have mass market appeal.

If they can somehow drop that tablet controller, things could be better.

I agree, the WiiU should be more like the PS4One in multiple ways, but how exactly are they supposed to make it like that now? All they could do now is build their online infrastructure and expand their teams as a means of readying for a smoother launch for their next console.

And third parties probably wouldn't have gotten back with Nintendo even if they had a console identical to the PS4.

No, dropping the WiiU gamepad would make things worse. They'd lose one of the few selling points they've got left, and they'd be left with a weak, third party-less, and generic console.

I think that if Nintendo made a console that was similar to PS4 they would be getting a lot more cross platform support. I can't say how much better 3rd party games would sell but they would certainly sell better than they do right now and more importantly it would take a lot less work to get them running and running well on the system. 3rd party games give or take a few would sell similar to pc games and most games are getting pc versions due to the ease of porting them over to pc. And they are often delayed on pc due to piracy which wouldn't be an issue on wiiu like it is on pc. I think Nintendo really wanted and needed 3rd party games at the beggining on the wiiu becuase it took nintendo some time to get their own content on the system. But i wouldn't say that Nintendo really really cared about 3rd party ports long term. If Nintendo cares about this then they would release hardware which is appealing to 3rd party devs.
