I'm willing to wait until after the 2014 holiday season to make any sort of calls on where the XBO stands, based upon the drastic incentives MS has taken to reverse its sales performance, but it is difficult to refute where things currently stand.
MS did experiment with the subscription based "free" XB360, and seeing as how the XBO is heavily oriented towards an all in one services box, they always have the option to simply give the XBO away with a 2 year service contract.
