MGS1 sold about 5.6 mil., MGS2 sold about 7 mil. between it's various editions, and MGS3 sold about 5 mil. between MGS3 and MGS3: Subsistence.

Given the massive hype of MGS4, the insane advertising that you know will happen, the ability for non-fans to enjoy the game despite not knowing the story (due to optional flashbacks during cutscenes), the recent release of the MGS Essentials Collection to draw in new fans to the series, and the inclusion of more western friendly FPS-like controls (don't worry, they're optional), I see MGS4 selling at least 6 million lifetime, and probably 3-4 million in 2008.

Hell, Konami is hoping for 1 million sales in Japan alone, which is roughly what MGS2/3 achieved.
