P{erfect example in that this never happened and was a ruse/ rumour. They did, however have a handful of PS + 12 month cards at gamestop for $30 when they are normally available for $47.99. Please not the handful remark. This was not a price cut for all to get.
Not to mention the fact that they put this on sale to counteract the criticism of the requirement of having ps+ for multiplayer. To further complicate matters, this $30 deal was not only limited but most people who attempted to buy it didn't succeed and it was sold out almost immediately.

Now imagine the free advertisement and the tens of thousands of people who went to their site to try and grab this limited offer and bought other crap.
