PSP has proved, that even standing against mega popular ds in Japan, it still can sell well.
PS3 has more powerful BRAND + it will have more AAA titles coming. The only problem, most of those AAA games is not out yet. But after 1 year situation will change, and you will see PS3 doing like PSP today or even better. =)
