Why does PS3 suck in Japan?

40GB White and Black PS3 without B/C and some left-overs of 20 / 60GB PS3 consoles with B/C.

There is also the Silver 40gb PS3 that was launched at the same time as Yakuza 3. The 20/60gb BC PS3's were discontinued about Jan. of this year(I think). That's why prices for those are so high for the 20/60gb, because they've stopped being made/sold and are harder to find nowadays (and because people want the BC). At all the major retailers that sell "new" games/systems you won't see a 20/60gb PS3 (at least I haven't seen one in awhile now). You have to go online/auctions/or smaller new&used game stores to pick one up.
