no, 25-35 yr old males are not the majority, but they are a key demographic... I'm not saying that it was a good decision AS A COMPANY took take the route they did... But, Sony (and MS to an extent) has taken this route and it's too late to change course... As for the rate of price reduction, this increases exponentially over time. If anyone can remember especially when PCs were starting to hit some lvl of mass market, it took a couple yrs for cost to go down, but now it's decreasing monthly. EDIT: I agree that PS2 numbers are a Sony execs wet dream, but to say failure is just ignorant.
