According to Hobbes, killing isn't bad, since the man is a man's wolf. Killing other humans would be something inherent to mankind itself.
You say it is demonstrably bad because you choose to go the Rousseau/Kant way, which is what, actually, almost everyone thinks, agrees, and is being taught. So, essencially, it is demonstrably bad because people commonly agrees for it, not because it is "bad" in itself.
EDIT: Most people didn't have any problem burning witches during Middle Age. Because that was the normal thing to do. It was the thing the people was taught, what almost everyone thought and what almost everyone agreed on doing.
