What? Game Developers still get paid on PC when you buy their games.
Converesly, developers can get more of your dollar as most publishers (And in many cases) and developers allow you to buy the game directly from them, thus removing the Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony/Valve tax on games.
Conversely, consoles need the PC, without PC gamers funding the technological advancement, then consoles have nowhere to go with it's "next gen", unless they wan't to go the way of the Ouya and use ARM-based hardware.

But it wouldn't be fair?
If you wish to do a complete and honest cost-analysis of a platform then you need to factor in *everything*.
For instance, PC games are cheaper, there is no online paywall, it is fully backwards compatable with decades worth of games, removing the need to buy multiple systems to play them all
For instance, my PC is 2 years older than my Xbox One, but I didn't need to buy a new PC to play these "next gen" games, it was already capable of running them.
Accessories like controllers, camera's, microphones, storage etc' are also cheaper. - I could buy 6x Keyboards and mice for the price of an Xbox or Playstation controller.
However a PC will generally use more energy... That can actually mount up, especially if you start looking towards 30'cents per kwh.

I think this is something any PC gamer can relate with. It would be a special kinda stupid to expect a $200GPU to perform as well as a $1000 or even a $3000 GPU. So if screenshots of PC games are put up for the sole purpose of comparing them to consoles, shouldn't the PC in question generating the in game screen shot be at least similarly priced to the console in question. Cause at the end of the day the real comparison is what you can get for your money. If you are comparing the performance of something that costs 4 times more than a console then doesn't that defeat the purpose? Thats like trying to drag race a honda civic with an enzo ferrari. |
If a PC gamer is going to be spending $1,000 on a GPU, they aren't going to be running games at console level, but significantly higher. (Or using that power for something other than games.)
Besides, there is an old saying of... "You get what you pay for". - You wan't the best? Then PC is where it has *always* been at, we were gaming in 1080P while gamers were excited about the very first Playstation or the Nintendo 64, yes really.
Again, what is required to make this an unbiased and fair comparison is a good breakdown of the costings of every single facet of the platforms, unfortunatly you haven't done so, merely just created "what-if" scenario's to spur the hate talk.

CONSUMER TYPE
|
PC Gaming is unfortunatly a larger market than consoles right now and growing faster than even the PS4 and Xbox One combined. (100 mil+ verses what, 30 mil for all 3 console platforms?)
It also consitutes a wide variety of "types" of gamers, from, casual, to social to hardcore to enthusiast.
However, having lob-sided share of the market isn't good for consumers, ultimatly I would prefer an equal and even split between everyone for competition reasons, otherwise innovation and price goes out the window.
Ironically, the points you bring up about people wanting "ease of access" is actually going backwards with consoles, long gone are the days where you did not have to update your machines and update your games, install your games, heck even load your games... The consoles GUI's are limited, yet being cluttered with more and more "junk" that gets in the way of actually, you know... Playing games and you still claim ease-of-use? Seriously? Might have been true a generation or two ago, not so anymore.
Where-as the PC, is going in the completely opposite direction.
You can buy a pre-built machine, plug it into a TV, download steam, run it in Big-picture mode and use it like a console, but simpler and a cheaper games library.
As for PC gamers being Obnoxious? Console gamers really aren't the ones to talk. - Constantly on these forums I see the more "technologically advanced" console users bash the "lesser advanced" machines user base, as-if they are high and mighty. (Xbox and Wii gamers probably understand this.)
The fastest way to stop the PC gamers from being "Obnoxious" is for the console gamers to also tone it down. - Basically, don't do to others what you don't wan't done to yourself, or... Just deal with being a slower, inferior platform.
