PS3 it is more powerful compare to Xbox 360 but only for the CPU, the gap is bigger then current gen, but it's not very efficient, hard to program (until recently) example : Battlefield 4 PS3 VS Battlefield Xbox 360
But Xbox 360 has the benefit on GPU and unified memory and easy to utilize especially for third party developer who was lazy to optimize the games for console.
Current gen PS4 has the same capability with Xbox One with Xbox 2% better on CPU, but PS4 has Benefit doubling the GPU power of Xbox One, with unified memory, GDDR5, HSA, GPGPU, ROP's, Better GUI, and added ACE for the GPU (overall easy to program, efficient, and also has a lot of future prove for optimizing)
I am saying PlayStation 4 is more improvement of balance cost design wise then over budget PS3 architecture design.
Both generation is equal in achievement on technology but THIS TIME PS4 HIT THE MARK PRECISELY WITH FOCUS ON GPU or GPGPU.
