Yes, the differences between the two would be harder to spot this gen than they were last gen when they were present. But there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for that.

But systems have the same amount of RAM, and that RAM is for the most part used in the exact same way. 98% of all a games assets can/will be seen across both platforms for any given game. So you are not going to see things like there being massive patches of grass that isn't rendered or extreme discrepancies in texture detail.

The things that the PS4 has over the XB1 are related to all round better performance. Faster RAM should mean better texture loading (kind of) and higher or more stable framerates. The more powerful GPU should mean higher rez overall, higher rez textures/shadow maps, more on screen effects and better post processing effects and better framerates.

These aren't things that are clear to see in pictures. But most of them make a world of difference when in motion. Like take MGS5 running at 60fps on the PS4 and 30fps at 720p on the XB1. Everything you see on screen is near identical... but not all identical is equal.
